Atomic Absorption Spectrometers

The Z-Series spectrometers are fully automated and computer-controlled through modern Windows™ XP operating software. The Z-series spectrometers are programmed to test all interlocks and automatically optimize conditions for methods of up to 12 elements. An optional 21 CFR 11 package is available providing controlled access, programmable permission levels, audit trail, electronic signatures, protected operation and more.

Icons appear on the left of all displays that provide single keystroke access to method development, analysis, data review and reporting, and diagnostic operations. At the top of the display, icons specific for each operation simplify frequently run tasks.

Method Development
The method development display is accessed by clicking on the Methods icon. Icons provided for method development specify the atomizer, elements of interest, spectrometer conditions for each analyte, atomizer parameters, calibration selection, analysis sequence, autosampler parameters, reporting and quality control. Changing atomizers requires only a single mouse click to complete. Clicking on the Verify button will load the method, setup the instrument parameters and open the Monitor window for analysis.

Analysis
Selecting the Monitor icon or verifying a method displays the active instrument status. Key features of this window are as follows:

  • Immediate control for all instrument operations.
  • Continuous graph of absorbance and graph of measurement absorbance.
  • Plot of calibration curve.
  • Table of sample and standard results.
  • Monitor panel of active operation, instantaneous absorbance, system, current sample information, PMT voltage, furnace usage & temperature, and system interlock status.
  • Icons on the left start sequences, enable baseline and slope adjustment, provide for adding samples to a running analysis and stopping an analysis.

Data
Recall any method or analysis using the Data Icon. Simply open the file icon and select the data you want to view. In the Data Window a table of all results for a given analysis appears. Graphs of each measurement and the calibration fit are displayed. A pulldown menu provides access to data for up to twelve elements. Data processing tools allow for the following operations:

  • Delete Data (data is excluded from reporting and grayed out but not lost.)
  • Restore Data (deleted data can be restored to the report.)
  • Exchange Samples (data for mislocated samples can be corrected.)
  • Calibration Mode (Type of integration and calibration fit can be modified after analysis.)
  • Concentration Correction (Weight, volume and dilution factors can be modified after analysis.)
  • Sample Name (If the name has been entered incorrectly, it can be modified.)
  • Sample Unit (Concentration units can be changed after analysis.)
  • Decimal Place (The number of decimal places reported can be modified after analysis.)

Diagnostics
The Diagnostics window provides tools to guarantee the Z-Series spectrometer is operating to performance specifications. Automated tests are wavelength accuracy, baseline stability, sensitivity and repeatability.
